According to Coinotag, the UK will lift its retail ban on crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs) starting next week, allowing ETNs listed on an FCA-approved UK investment exchange to be traded by retail investors. ETNs are unsecured debt securities linked to crypto prices and differ from ETFs, which remain restricted under current UK fund rules. The FCA will begin accepting prospectuses for ETNs on Sept. 23, and regulators may issue comments before listings go live, potentially delaying product launches. Companies like BlackRock, Bitwise, and CoinShares are preparing UK offerings. Retail investors can trade ETNs once they are listed on an FCA-approved UK exchange and pass prospectus review. The FCA stated that the current funds framework prevents retail ETFs from investing directly in cryptoassets, and changes would be required before such ETFs can be offered.
